Ok so i finally decided to upgrade my old NF7-S w/ 3200+ computer and have been out of the hardware scene for a while. After doinga little research ive narrowed down my choices between these two components and wondering if you guys can give me some input.

I already have decent HD's, monitor, case, keyboard/mouse.I will be using this for moderate gaming. I have an antec truepower 430watt and ill have 3 hd's and 1 cdrom hooked up will it be powerful enough for this? Plan on hooking it up to my 50inch hdtv for movies etc and also home theatre system. any input is appreciated.

Help us help you narrow it down...

Chances are, you'll need a new PSU. How old is that PSU?

What's your budget?
What's included in that budget?
What resolution/settings do you play games at?
What games do you play?
What features do you need in a motherboard? (raid, firewire, 3 pci slots, etc???)
Do you plan on OC'ing?
If so, to what speed on which CPU?
What else will you be using the system for besides gaming and Home Theater stuff?
How many IDE drives do you plan on re-using?
Is your HDTV 720P or 1080P? just curious.

Sorry i left that out. my max budget is 1200. I need Mobo, CPU, vid card, ram, cpu cooler. I have a dell2407wft monitor so im looking to run it at the highest resolution as possible. Dont need all the settings to be at highly. Would like medium. I plan on playing crysis as probably the most demanding game. Need raid and just one PCI slot. I plan on OC'ing it to about how far it can go. dont have any particular goal in mind. I also plan on doing some encoding to dvd every once in a while. and all of my IDE's from my old computer i plan on just buying externals and have them hooked up via USB or eSATA. and my TV is 1080i. thanks again for your reply

I too am looking to make a new build....Budget $1000+100(at most)

Case:
Rosewill R5717-P SL ($30) (comes with 1x120mm fan (back)
120mm Case fans (2@ $3.50) additionally needed (front + side)

CPU: $195
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 Processor
Can OC easily to +3.2

CPU cooler: (heat piping!)
Rosewill RCX-Z775-EX 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler ($40)
ZEROtherm CF900 92mm CPU Cooler ($28)
Probably cheaper and I hope some people can attest and post!!

MOBO: $160 ($20 rebate, SLI wanted for future expandability)
EVGA nForce 680i LT (T1 version)
680i LT version seems to me to be at a good price/performance

RAM: $100 (2gb 800mhz,any fast brand, I can trim this $ by rebate
patriot has good timings + v.g. rebates (after rebate =$40)
but whatever is cheap/fast! the prices change almost monthly

HD: $100...any 500gb drive for price
However: is there any significant gaming advantage to 150GB raptor
This ? is currently what I'm trying to evaluate
any help would be useful ! ! !

PS: min 600W (OCing in mind...and I want to try modular)
mushkin 550150 ATX12V 650W Power Supply 115/230 V ($119)
Ultra X3 ULT40073 600-Watt Power Supply ($130)
I'm sure I could save $$ by using non-modular designs

Vid: $269 (I hope I can get one in january when I plan on buying)
8800GT gigabyte or any other (GB apparently VG for OCing....)

Vid cooler: $20-45 (this is debatable but I believe my vid card will have to have one)

I think this system has a lot of potential for gaming for several years (3-4) without having to rebuild, but simply adding another 8800GT in SLI (adding several more years)...but we'll see...
