Centrino 2 laptops! Post 'em if you got 'em.

Yes it is. The processor gives it away. The T9400 is one of the new Centrino 2 CPUs.
All the Asus M50Vm models should be Centrino 2s.

I have added the B3 you linked to the first post.

Great...that would be my next laptop because it has two 250GB HDs, I believe. Or is it just one 500GB?

The only difference from B1 to B4 is that the latter has Blu-Ray drive while the first doesn't. Am I correct on this?

I was going to say yes, but then I would have been wrong. The BD version is smaller in size
(what!?!?) and weight.

Incredible!

B4 (The BD version)
Dimensions 14.2" x 10.5" x 1.1-1.6"
Weight 6.5 lbs.

B1
Dimensions 14.8" x 10.6" x 1.8"
Weight 6.7 lbs.

Also the B4 has an E-SATA port that the B1 does not have.

Hey, hope im not sidetracking here, I was wondering what anyone thinks about this place for laptops: http://www.discountlaptops.com/index.php?section=configurator&regular_model_id=1533&model_id=1534

It's an amazing price for a custom centrino 2 laptop. I checked the Resseller ratings (http://www.resellerratings.com/store/DiscountLaptops) and they are more on the positive side. Only thing I see that is suspicious is that they are no longer registered on the BBB site, but they did change locations. I will try to call them and drill them on their knowledge but let me know what you all think. Thanks.

I think that site looks fine.

Should I add these Prostar Centrino 2s to my list? What do you guys think?

I found a few more Asus and Sony models at Newegg. Find them linked up in the first post.

Dell has finally jumped into the Centrino 2 waters with 6 business laptops and 0 home use laptops.

Hurray! At least for all you business types...

Nice 3dMark Mentok!! You can run any game with that beast!
Just a note, the Sony FW11ZU 16.4 inch UK laptop has a Radeon 3650 graphics card. This happened with the fz series, people in the US got a 8400m gt and in the UK we got the 8600m gs!! Wierd!

do any of these laptops use the fan design IBM uses? I hate having the fan under the laptop

Is there a cheap Centrino 2 that is out yet? Like 800-1000 dollars? But from

www.circuitcity.com

I don't know jack squat about laptops or the new technology, and someone I know is having their mom buy one for them.

edit: it will be used for just school work.. and play games in spare time. CS:S and maybe some new games.

Look for notebooks with Intel chips with a 1066MHz FSB (front side bus). Centrino 2 notebooks have it. There is more to the Centrino 2, but that is an easy way to spot one. Some links show the Centrino 2 logo
Intel-Centrino-2-logo.jpg
. The Centrino 2 technology is so new that many stores have little, if any stock. OEMs are still limiting the Centrino 2 to certain models with their rollouts (see list on the first page of this link). It will be tough finding Centrino 2 systems in that price range as stores want to sell off older Centrino inventory as the Centrino 2 ramps up.

Circuit City is showing this dv7-1020us for $1349.99 after rebate:

7 Things You Need to Know About Centrino 2
Intel's Next-Gen Chipset promises better performance, longer battery life.
http://www.laptopmag.com/print_article.aspx?id=16455&url=http://www.laptopmag.com//advice/expert/centrino2.aspx?page=1

We mentioned switchable graphics above as a new power savings technology from Intel, but what exactly is it? Think of it as NVIDIA's Hybrid SLI technology for a notebook rather than a desktop; a notebook that has both discrete and integrated graphics (as all Centrino 2 systems will have) can either automatically or manually be switched from operating on either GPU solution. This way you can see the benefits of an IGP solution for battery life concerns when necessary or utilize the performance of a discrete GPU solution for gaming sessions when battery life isn't an issue.

is that true? I have been researching the new Sony FW190 and theres no mention of this

That is why you should call Sony and ask them. I called HP and they said their laptops don't
have it AND they don't understand why their customers would want it.

Thanks. I added it to the list. Too bad Gateway's site does not list it yet, or any other Centrino 2 laptops for that matter...

The P-7811 FX Edition is now on the Gateway site:

http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668123.php

It directs you to Best Buy for purchase (they are selling it for $50 over Gateway list price).
This may be a Best Buy exclusive.

why not? cause running the discrete graphics when all you're doing is word and firefox eats up battery life and generates more heat on your lap. but at the same time, you might want to game a little bit later on so then you have the real graphics card waiting for you at the push of a button.

whats wrong with hp?

I added several Lenovos (listed below) and I had to update the processor speeds on almost
all the Lenovos that were already in my list. Lenovo has gone from Up to T9400 to Up to T9600
for almost all their laptops.

Lenovo IdeaPad S10 (Black White and Red)
10.2" | Up to Intel Atom N720 Single (1.6 GHz) | Intel GMA X4500 | DDR2

Lenovo IdeaPad U330
13.3" | Up to Intel P7350 (2 GHz) | Radeon HD 3450 | DDR3

Lenovo ThinkPad W500
15.4" | Up to Intel T9600 (2.8 GHz) | Mobility FireGL V5700 | DDR3

Lenovo IdeaPad Y730
17" | Up to Intel P8400 (2.26 GHz) | Radeon HD 3650 | DDR3

Lenovo IdeaPad W700
17" | Up to Intel X9100 (3.06 GHz) | Quadro FX-2700 or Quadro FX-3700 | DDR3

I picked one up on Sunday. It's very nice.

No built in bluetooth is wierd, but I had one of these laying around anyway. Also the FN key on the left hand side is infuriating but I'm getting used to it (it's on the corner and the control key is pushed over).

Nice buy!

CNET has a video review of that system:

CNET Editor's Choice - Aug 08

CNET's Dan Ackerman isn't sure how Gateway can make money on this system. He feels the price is very reasonable for the components they use.

I agree, the omission of bluetooth seems strange.

Is it possible to upgrade the CPU on the new P-7811FX ? I'm thinking of selling my current laptop and getting this new gateway.

I've read that it is but the fastest socket P available is a dual core 2.53GHz. It hardly seems worth it.

A quad core 2.53GHz is coming tho.
