I'm looking to get some very cheap speakers. 2.0 or 2.1. I'm thinking I want to piece something together instead of getting some Logitech 2.1 for $40. My budget is probably ~$100 but I don't mind spending a few dollars more if it's truly worth it.

So far I picked out this...

Is this my best bet without spending ~$200?

op the micca and lepai will do fine on the cheap. look around locally for used gear too. a pair of full sized speakers would sound better.

Yes I considered browsing craigslist for a better amp in specific. I have a lot of choices for speakers at that price range (even in the used market) but as far as new amps around ~$25, I don't see much.

I'm getting them for my brother as computer speakers. Currently he uses the speaker below as his primary laptop speaker so anything will be an upgrade.

As a general point, many people (in general - I don't mean specifically the other people that posted in here) seem to think that you need a larger amp to drive larger speakers. In actuality, the opposite is true! Larger speakers are actually almost always more efficient, meaning you usually get more sound per watt than you would from smaller speakers. To explain it simply it's because it's more efficient to create sound from a speaker with a large surface area than it is to use a small surface area with a long stroke.

Do not buy any sort of sound card or DAC at this budget unless you hook up your onboard and it is noisy. And I'm not saying it won't be. It very well may be, especially as spaceman says on a laptop. But check first anyway. If you do not get noticeable noise - that is, if your SNR is reasonable - do NOT buy any of that. It would be better to spend the money on the speakers. The lower your budget is, the higher the proportion that should be devoted to speakers.
