Cheap mobo/cpu upgrade suggestions?

greetings...

Any suggestions for a cheap mobo/cpu combo that would perform better (if only nominally better) than an i875 platform with a 2.6C @ 3.4? Needs to be compatible with DDR 1 dual channel memory. I have 1GB HyperX PC3500 that's very stable and don't want to spend $$ on new memory.

Really just looking for platform suggestions (not necessarily specific mfrs).

Gaming is the main application.

lower end socket 939 (winny/venice) and nf3 or nf4 ultra board would cost less than $250 -$260 BUT the nf4 board would require a pcie vid card, eg. 6600 or 6600gt which will be $100 and up. nf3 ultra supports dual channel mem and agp 8x.

thanks...I think the nf3 solution would be fine. I plan on using my 9800 Pro for a while longer, and I'm sure there will be good AGP cards available for a while. I like to by the goods that were hot "last year", if you know what I mean. I can't afford bleeding edge but I don't want to be a slouch, either.
