As the title suggests, I got a new E6600 today. When I opened it up and looked at the processor I noticed a small chip on the 'top' (the metal side that the heatsink would connect to). Even if I hate the thought, will this chip have a negative effect on anything? Should I send it back to Newegg for a replacement?

Thanks for the help!

Depends on how large the "Chip" is, but in general if it is small and near the edge you shouldn't experience any problems with it. Just be glad it's not one of those FPGA chips which were uber-easy to damage.

There isn't like a hunk missing or anything, more like a small ding. I'll see if I can get a camera and post a picture.

Sounds like just a little ding in the heat spreader and not a silicon piece chipped off the actual die itself, so I'm betting it's okay. But if you have any reservations, take pictures, and contact Newegg. I'm sure they'll replace it with a brand-new one.
