I have a 1080p version of a movie, it is in the harddrive, so I'm not streaming. It gets choppy, stutters, pauses, all sorts of bad stuff. I have a e6400 core2duo, with an ati x800xl. I have also tried it in a similar system with a geforce 210 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130541)

Is the video card causing my issues? I thought the geforce would be decent enough to play it without problems.

I've played 1080p on my core2... it's overclocked though, but i figure it would be fine either way.

install mpc hc.
reset settings to default when given the option during installation.

geforce 210 is fantastic for video playback, it can fully hardware accelerate basically everything.

mpc hc's defaults utilize full hardware acceleration for h264, vc-1 and mpeg 2 atm.

I had a similar issue and found out the culprit was the OCZ memory I was using. Changed to a different brand and no choppiness anymore.
Try different memory if you can.
