Google released a new Chrome extension that allows you to block sites from Google search results.

Today we’re launching an early, experimental Chrome extension so people can block sites from their web search results. If installed, the extension also sends blocked site information to Google, and we will study the resulting feedback and explore using it as a potential ranking signal for our search results.

Awesome! Now I can easily block all the "pay-to-answer" tech site garbage that comes up.

So it sounds like Google is outsourcing their spam filtering with their search results. I have the extension installed, but I wonder how much they are going to be able to stop people from gaming the results to push down sites.

Think of anonymous being able to push things like amazon.com down so much that it wouldn't show up when you Google "amazon shopping." I like this idea but I will be interested what they will be able to do to stop this type of manipulation.

Very cool, I can't stand those sites... I wonder if you can share the config file or something... make a nice streamlined search engine for programmers, IT specialists, gamers, etc... probably overkill, but searching through google still comes with lots of crap to sift through

I need this for Firefox. The first site I would put in it to block would be that !$#%@#$!@%$ Experts-Exchange site.

Let me guess, you can block everything except sponsored results.

To me this just sounds like a ploy to sell more sponsored search results :p

G: "Sorry company X. 98% of users have blocked your shitty site, but if you pay us..."

Nah, google pride's itself on relevance. If 98% of their users say that company X really is a steaming pile of shit, I'd wager on google not letting it show up as a sponsored link.
