How do I get the dust layer off of my X-Fi, or any other card for that matter? Is it safe (considering ESD and all that) to just simply wipe it off with a microfiber cloth?

Compressed air (while the computer is off and unplugged).

I've tried that but it just won't remove the remaining layer of dust completely. :(

Is your can almost empty? When I ever use it, it will blast through anything

Or is this a couple years worth of dirt and has been baked on? I wouldn't use a cloth because it would get stuck on the contacts on the back of the card and rip it up.

Well, the PCB is more gray than black atm and compressed air couldn't handle it.

why, why do you hate your computer so :p

It doesnt like all the dust.

I would soak it in isopropyl rubbing alcohol or even rinse it off with distilled water. Just let it dry completely before putting it in.

Sounds risky :s

How about using a brush to get of that last remaining layer?

I just grab a kleenex or paper towel and wipe off the dust. It won't cause any problems.
