First time in 34 years I've considered buying a laptop. I've never considered them equal to a full desktop and never thought of them as a gameing machine until now. I've been looking for a P4 processor, not a celeron or a mobile chip (dont know much about them ohter than the clock speed is slower)....

I recently started looking and saw the X6000... 17" widescreen, 100gig drive, gig of ram, 256meg video card etc.. etc.. etc...

Everything my desktop has but more portable than a minitower.

Mostly used for connecting to work and playing games, occasional lan party or two..basically a "desktop replacement" as they advertise it as...

Anyone have an X6000 and what do you think of it? Any problems to report? Things you like/don't like about them?

thanks for any input you might give....

as for games

well, it plays painkiller booh, ut2004, need for speed u2, hl2 at a resolution of 1280X1024 with 2x aa and 8x af

i am surprise that this chip is capable of playing at those resolutions, considering its performance is lower than a 9700 pro

as for doom 3, well it was playable at 1024x768 resolution with no aa or af

the speakers of this thing at the loudest i have hear from any laptop,

it doesnt get hot even in gaming
fans are quiet

specifications of the notebook are
1 gig of ram
256 mb x600 ati video card
3.0 ghz p4
7200 rpm 60 gig hd, this thing loads windows fast

overall , i am impressed with this notebook

and yeah, as you can see, i also got the audigy 2 zs notebook
it is amazing at the output of the sound quality, it is the same as the audigy 2 zs desktop card

another note, this laptop blows warm/hot (depending on the temperature) air from the left side, and the section next to the touchpad gets warm

hope this helps

edit: The thing I dont like is that the hd and the dvd drive seem to use the same controller because when you use the dvd and at the same time try to open another program, it takes time

Hearing that it runs some good games at decent speeds is refreshing..

I think I'm going to order it this week..

I might get the 60gig or 80gig just to shave a small bit off the price...

sounds like a good laptop.

thanks

I have not open the Compaq x6000, but if the Compaq x6000 uses the AXIOM socket for the x300 and x600 would it be possible to switch to tje x800? Can the x600 card be remove? Does any other have pictures of the mainboard?

lets just say everything is build into the motherboard. so you cant change the video card
