Confused about memory/mobo configs

Im looking for an AMD motherboard with 2 true 16x PCIe slots and passive chipset cooling. I was set on the Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe SLI X16 but I see it only handles up to DDR-400. Are boards that handle DDR2-800 faster? If so what is the advantage of slower DDR boards?

Sorry for the newb question, just need a little explanation here, thanks!

Edit: Sorry nevermind, DDR2 doesnt work with AMD till AM2, thanks for the help ;)
