Connect single port IP KVM to old school KVM

I've been thinking about a cheaper solution to an 8 or 16 port kvm. I was thinking about getting a single port IP KVM and connecting it to a traditional 8 port KVM switch. Seems like it would work , as long as the double keep tap was sent with proper timing to switch channels. Has anyone seen anything like this?

Yes, big KVM manufactures sell single port IP KVMs for this purpose.

The IP Control from Minicom should work perfectly for you.

I've done this in our lab (albeit not with single port ip-kvm's, but given a manufacturer, it should be similar). I've used the following combo's:

Avocent DSR (ip-kvm) to Raritan Paragon
Raritan Dominion KX/KX II (ip-kvm) to Raritan Paragon
