Conroe What?

It is said that the Conroe will be LGA775 - but it will require a 965 chipset board? Those of us with 915 and 945 get left behind, I guess.

Meh, 915 and 925 werent meant for longterm anyways. Nor was 955, but, you know, motherboards are cheap.

NO! 2.66GHz will have a Tray price of $515 I've got another price quote today of $569 Retail. 2.4GHz will have a Tray price $319 and could be sold for as much as $400 but $369 is little more realistic.

Yes, way the hell too many transistional Chipsets. Two different 915s (Not counting planned different model like P and G and 3 different 925, the totally wasted 955 and 945. Then there's i975 before i965 and 985 is real then not real. True, I'm waiting for i965 but there's no way in hell Intel gets a free pass on this BS IMHO!

No , but Conroe 2.4GHz is.

And since Conroe 2.66GHz is 20-30% faster than FX62 , a 2.4GHz Conroe should be on par or have a small lead ( 3-5% )

Assuming a 10% Increase in clockspeed translating to 8% perofrmance increase, which is about right for a High IPC architecture, then expect, 2.4GHZ Conroe to still maintain a 10-20% lead at the minimum over the FX 62, I have never seen a greater then clock frequency percentage increase in performance, when holding the other factors constant.

Anyone have any idea about what non-Intel chipsets Conroe will work with? I have the ASUS P5N32 SLI, and I am curious about nforce chipsets.

Isnt a Nforce 5 suppose to come out this year? If so, I would imagine they would be compatible with Conroe. If there isnt a Nforce 5 and still the Nforce 4, I would image a chipset update or possibly a new edition to the Nforce 4 Intel chipset will be introduce.

I really don't think Intel is going to Allow Sli on intel chipset boards . Why should intel allow sli . NV didn't want to support intel sli befor. So why should intel allow NV sli after Conroe. I say let NV and AMD have each other.

Sis and ATI are both bring a chipset to market that support conroe & DDR3 memory 4th qt.

I think you've got that a bit backwards. Intel WANTS to have SLI on Intel's chipset, it's nVidia that will not let them. If anything, I wish that Intel could tell nVidia that unless they want to start making drivers for SLI on Intel chipsets, they cannot make boards that support Intel procs. Fuck em I say.... unless they want to play ball they can go to hell. As for your question "why should intel allow SLI?" Simple... more money. The only thing that keeps me from running SLI, besides the fact that I'm not a nVidia fan :D, is the non-intel chipset. The reason I keep going to intel is because of their chipsets. If I was willing to go with a nVidia board.... I might as well buy AMD. And we all know that's not gonna happen. :D I'd never taint my lovely case with that crap. Might as well slap a thermaltake sticker on at that point. :D

HAHAHA! I do agree with ya' though! I can't believe nVidia did that and then lied about Intel not sending what they needed.

under 400 for a 2.4 isnt bad. I'd love to see SLI on the intel chipset, when I buy intel systems I like to get their chipset, the Nforce4 is a great chipset, but Intel has always been teh best in the business, though I did doubt that when I had an i810 lol

This thread got my hopes up for a 2.66 conroe at 320 bucks :p Oh well.

Here's the thing though.... I'd be amazed if you couldn't get a 260mhz OC on a 2.4 conroe and now that you can get overclocking features on Intel boards.... there is really no reason not to go with one step down and OC a bit.

Poncho is really being very conserviative with that O/C . But we do have to wait another 2 weeks before any real O/C can be leaked onto the net by those who are not under a NDA.

Conroe 2.4 should easily O/C to 2.9 and that will be blisteringly fast @ $300+

I agree that you could probably get a much higher OC, but I'm just not a fan of big overclocks. Sure it looks cool, but not worth it in the long run. You can run into too many stability issues for my tastes. But that's just me.

Oh... and the reason that there aren't any overclocking info out there yet is not so much because of NDAs.... but rather it's DAMN HARD to find an aftermarket board that'll run Conroe. Sure they are out there.... but not available. Hell... I'm about to resort to a pre-production board to build my Conroe system. :D

Thought I'd throw a little Conroe porn in here for you guys. I think these are all 2.4/1066.

Isn't nForce 5 going to support Intel chips?

Doing a quick google for nForce 5 shows alot of hints at SLI + Intel for it. This is mostly rumors, but juicy ones at that =)

Why must you tease us like that!!!! :D

So Merom is not suppose to come out until later in the year. I was hoping to get a Thinkpad with Merom in it by Christmas. Would that still be possible?

Merom is supposed to come out with conroe, unless it got pushed back. I don't follow mobile so much anymore so I'm not sure. I do know that the latest mobile board just powered on, so unless they are pushing it a year+ I'm guessing that it'll be a drop in with current 945GM lappys. I'd bet you'll see them by Christmas.

I could do to Conroe what I did when I got my hands on some of the 64bit Opterons before they came out......

Now where's my drill......Conroe keychain FTW!!@!@! :D

The orginal roadmap was for merom 4th qt. Love that keychain I was wondering what use AMD cpu's would have with Conroe arrival.

BURN!!!!

But in all honestly that is inviting a flame fest.

No its not because were in Intel forum . So were allowed to say AMD sucks even if it doesn't.

Well Donnie you got that right. I can say these are some chips I would't play cards with.

When you work around this crap as much as I do... they really lose the "awe" factor. Truth is I could drill a hole through a Conroe and it wouldn't even phase me.... and I'm suprised I haven't. Why would I do something like that you ask? Because I can. :D Sure... they are all special when you get that first batch in. But before you know it you are carrying procs in your pockets without the protectors on them, rubbing the backside on carpet before installing it into a board, and my favorite..... CPU frisbee. :D The first time always the greatest.... but you'll never get that high again. :D

Is there a function that lets us ignore posts from certain users by not displaying them?

I don't suppose you could hook me up with a Conroe keychain? ;)
You could even drill the hole in it.

LOL... no, I could lose my job for that one. As long as the "broken" stuff stays at work it's all good. :D

Your point?

It should be documented. I've worked with less sensitive stuff and more sensitive stuff. Granted, computer chips aren't controlled substances. But, it's just good practice to document everything to make auditing easier. Either you're shooting the breeze a bit too far or sample documentation is very lax. So, you tell me. I have a good amount of experience doing validation.

You know... I think I saw somebody walking a bit funny yesterday. I bet he was smuggling out a Conroe in his ass. Really man... you're making a much bigger deal out of this than is necessary. I swear... I might just stop posting on these boards, I seem to only get shit when I do.

So does anyone have a better release date for Conroe? The only news I've heard is Q3 2006...that's not exactly specific.

There is nothing offical other than Intel stateing they will try to release date early. I personnally believe it will come out in june . The only reason I say this is because this cpu has been ahead of roadmaps from dayone.

Poncho don't even think like that. Most all of us like your post and the info you provide.

Its a cruel world we live in as you know. What makes it cruel? People! In forums you have to deal with people. It doesn't help that most posters are very young wet behind the ears college know it alls . Most of which will end up doing work they never studied for.

Keep your head up and eye's wide open. AND keep posting, you enjoy this stuff or you wouldn't read or reply.

I personnally enjoy reading your post. I don't always agree but thats normal for all.

You and donnie27 add much to the hard forums. It would not be the same without you 2 guys.
