I've been looking into picking up an H80 but I'm concerned about fan and pump control. In the reviews I've read, it seems like the speed controls are on the waterblock.

Is there any way to control these externally through software? (external utility, motherboard utility, plug into normal fan controller unit, etc.?)

yeah, you just change the dial on the block. you can choose between the different profiles. first profile is low noise, second profile allows for higher fan speed and the third or fourth one sets the fan to 100%. thats the easiest way to control it. you can plug the fan into the 4 pin cpu fan controller but do not plug the pump into the cpu fan header.
