Until i have enough to buy a completely new PC and DX10 CArd for Crysis. I mean would i beable to play every game out right now compltely max out with a 7900gs...also with a amd 64 3700 1gig of pc3200 ram and i'll be running at a piss poor res 1024 @ 768 would it hold me over until then?

because i only have a 17inch montior lol but will have a Samsung 226BW 22" Monitor when i build my new machine:)

1280x1024 seems too small to me on a 17 inch screen, i also use 1024x768 res.

For this resolution the card is perfect for just about all current games.

On every 17 inch crt i've used when i bump the res to 1280X1024 it automatically lowers the refresh rate to 60 hertz. :(

if you're looking at the gs, then you may want to look for bfg's. A lot of them actually use the gt core, and you can unlock all the pipes and turn it into a gt. That said, I haven't seen too many good bfg deals lately. However, evga I've seen for 120AR. Either way, with a simple voltmod with ink, you'll be real high in clocks and dominate stock gt's with ease.

The aspect ratio on CRT monitors is typically 4:3. 1280x1024 is a 5:4 resolution. If you're using a CRT, you should be running at 1280x960. 1280x1024 will stretch the image out on a 4:3 display. It's included in game options solely for 1280x1024-native LCDs (check the HL2 options if you don't believe me). Plus most monitors can handle a higher refresh rate at 1280x960 (typically 75Hz vs 60Hz, if memory serves).

I just upgraded from a 7600GS to a 7900GS and am very happy with it. I play everything at my LCD's native resolution of 1440x900.

That's because you buy cheap CRTs :)

My old Iiyama Visionmaster Pro 410 (17" CRT) could do 1600x1200 @ 75Hz, or 1280x1024 @ 100 Hz. Expensive, but worth every penny.

Cheap CRTs are also a major reason why people "think" LCDs look so much better than CRTs - they see how crappy cheap CRTs look and perform, and assume that's how all CRTs are.
