CPU Cleaning

I'm getting rid of my stock heating and putting a new one in, would wiping the CPU off with a linen free cloth be good enough? I don't have any of that fancy cleaning stuff and I'm not planing on buying any either.
 
also, a razorblades does a nice job of getting the large goops off, then do the above action.
 
Use a paper towel with a bit of alcohol on it, dont use anything like toilet paper or kleenex though. Paper towels dont shed as easily, so they are fine.
 
paint thinner works well on the stock thermal pad ;)
clean up with 91-99% rubbing alcohol afterwards

QFT - everything will not come off, but that gets the most
