Craigslist, fresh off its one day self-censorship campaign, faces a new wave of political attacks. Next up for Mr. Newmark? Appearing before a congressional committee. Fun, fun, fun!

And now, two sources have told CNET, a congressional committee has asked Newmark to testify at a hearing in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday afternoon on the topic of "domestic minor sex trafficking." About the only thing that might make matters worse, perhaps, would be President Obama himself joining the anti-Craigslist fray.

Politicians like to drum up the proles with a nice sticky moral issue (thats in reality irrelevant) to distract people from real issues.

/south park rabble rabble crowd

by the way, just legalize prostitution you dummies, and stop spending my taxes on this kind of shit.

Personally I think they could just replace every word out of the committees mouth's with something akin to the Peanuts "wah WAH, wah wah wah wah" and nothing would be lost.

"But I've said nothing so far, and I can keep it up for as long as it takes. And it don't matter who you are, if I'm doing my job then it's your resolve that breaks."

Criagslist isn't the only thing under fire on the internet, if you go to You-tube now and click on any of the videos of people burning the qu'ran you are redirected to the front page. It seems everyone is freaking out...

Like I said, "With elections right about the corner, politicians like to release a slew of new legislation and feel good acts (I like to call them "save the kittens!" act. I mean who wouldn't want to save the kittens?"

It's all pomp and circumstance to boost their image as being effective politicians. Part of an age old game of BS.

If pro is for, and con is against, what's the opposite of progress?

Did legalizing medical maurijuana solve California's problems?

In many ways I agree that legalizing it would take care of 99.9% of these issues.

However would it make it more "legitimate" and introduce even more people to sleeping with prostitutes?

Just food for thought.

The older I get the more politicians piss me off. Most of what they spend their time doing raises the question "Do you really have nothing better to do with your time?". Its even more enraging that a large part of their time and effort is devoted to maneuvering to attain that next plateau of government. Not to mention most of the politicians attitude and demeanor toward the general public, which can only be described as an above the law better than my constituents attitude. I want to take each one by the neck and say "hey assholes you work for use, now stop dicking around and get some actual work done!!".

Whats wrong with sleeping with prostitutes.....moral issues aside is it really any different than going to a restaurant and having someone cook your food for you? They are providing a service, and IMO its only because of the laws set in place here that it has become such a terrible business.

Now would I ever hire a prostitute, no. Should others be criminalized for doing so? I don't think they should. But I don't agree with a lot of the laws that we have in place here.....

That's not really legalizing it. Sure Oxycotton is legal but that doesnt stop the illegal selling of it and peoples lives generally made worse for it.

Decriminalizing marijuana and other easily obtained drugs would essentially kill a decent portion of the drug trade and the violence associated with it. This in itself is not a bad thing. Gang and other ne'er-do-well's survive of these drugs which are easily obtained but restricted enough to be profitable. as always "Remember prohibition?"

Prostitution is legal in many modern countries. Theres a redlight district near my home in antwerp and it hasn't caused anybody any harm.

People obsess over everything. " THINK OF THE CHILDREN" nonsense has gotten out of hand. This was not meant to be a goddamn nanny state.

But then statistics would show an increase of STDs in the US, as well as increased divorced rates? :p

Always tackle something by the roots, never its branches.

EDIT: Maybe we should push for illegalizing anonymity (Tor tsk tsk) and ridding of this weak thing called "privacy" too.

No it wouldn't....sanctioned prostitution would require the "attendants" to be checked for disease regularly and show proof of this before payment for the "transaction". You think pimps provide this service now? STD rates would go down, not to mention the tax dollars generated by harnessing the income of this business that is already active.

What percentage of the population goes to bars to get laid? How many people jerk off to porn on the internet? How is it any different than that? In fact I would rather people pay a prostitute than go solo lol.

People honestly make too big a deal about sex. Who cares if someone is paying for sex?

Who'd have thought making communication easier would get someone in such hot water. Funny how Craigslist gets in so much trouble for what people completely unaffiliated with the company do.

Whats even worse is out Craig Newmark and employee gets roped into this instead of say oh the CEO who would be better suited.

I'd be flipping the politicians the bird and instructing them that they can speak to my lawyer....

Never heard of "submission through attrition" have you?

govt = endless funds.

I think you mean govt=endless spending.......if something like that goes to court and the government starts spending large sums of money on their own agenda....not gonna last long. :)

oil spill turned out to be a non-issue, people universally hate the healthcare plan and the democrat performance on the economy sucks, so gotta find something to distract people with.
