Crossfire 7970's @ 7680x1440?

I'd really like to pick up three of those Korean Catleap monitors, but I'm only running a single 7970 right now. Obviously, I'd need to add at least another 7970 to run anything at that resolution, but I'm curious - how well would, let's say BF3, run @ Ultra settings with 0aa and 16af on two 7970's at 7680x1440 resolution?

If need be, I could just game on intensive games like BF3 with one monitor, and on less intensive games I could use all three, but I'd prefer not to do that.

I was going to shell out $1,200 for the new Samsung S27B970, but decided that for $950 and three 27" Apple Cinema Displays (pretty much), it was much more worth it. And I did love my old Eyefinity set up as well.

Just wondering your opinions on that high of a resolution with two 7970's. Currently my motherboard only supports two PCI-E cards, and upgrading my motherboard + GPU plus the monitors isn't an option for now. All I can afford is the monitors and a second GPU, and that's really about $400 more than I should be spending.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of 5760x1080 but no 7680x1440 reviews :p

I ordered them anyway, but I'm really curious if two would be enough. Even if I'm playing BF3 @ High settings w/ no AA I feel like it should be at least 30fps, but who knows? I can stick with playing on one monitor until I can afford a new motherboard and tri-fire 7970's.

1440P monitors are about ~85% more pixels than 1080P, so you can almost cut the 1080P eyefinity numbers in half. Really need 3-4 GPU's for that resolution. (11 mil pixels).

I figured I'd probably need three 7970's to get decent frames in Ultra settings. I'll get a second card in about a month or so, then a third in two or three months with a new motherboard. I've been meaning to grab one of those sexy Sabertooth Z77 boards anyway, especially with three cards. Although for PCI-E 3.0 would I need to upgrade my 2500k to a 3570k? Since the Sabertooth is basically running at 16x/16x/8x in PCI-E 2.0, I figure that would be good enough, but if I need to upgrade my CPU as well, then so be it :p

Will AMD release a 7990 ever? That would help to go tri-fire (or even quad if you want to go crazy with x2 dual GPU cards) without changing the motherboard.

I have a 6990+6970 and I get about 60 -80 fps in BF3 on Ultra @ 5760X1080p

hmmm... looks like you'll be the first to find out how well it will do on that resolution. i only run a single 30" 2560x1600 at the moment

I had the same thought as you, and that setup would be awesome. I have the 2 7970's and wanted 3 of the 27" 2560*1440 from Korea. I received one but it was total garbage. Terrible stand, panel loose from the bezel, broken pieces of something floating around inside, broken power brick, and I don't know if this stupid thing even works.

Regardless, keep us abreast as to the awesomeness of your setup when it's running like a champ!
