Crossfire for mATX! Yay?

Meh.

Interesting as a demo, but single-slot only and no quad-core support.

BTW, you can do it on AM2 as well with a little modding; should be Barcelona ready. :) Gigabyte MA69GM-S2H, break off the end of the PCIe x4 slot. 690G supports Crossfire.

Those cards are so close to each other, they look like they're gonna fry one another. IMO, there's no point to it since it's single slot anyways, and you wouldn't be able to use the 2900XT's with it. SLI/Crossfire is only useful with high end cards. Why get 2 2600's in CF when 1 2900 could do the job with less trouble?

liquid cooling would be the answer to that

But why go through all that work when you could just run 1 2900 which would be cooler, more efficient, and cheaper?

Crossfire works with the GA-G33M-DS2R motherboard as well.

Yup, I would definitely take the G33 chipset over the 945 one that the link shows. Only problem with the gigabyte is dual slot cards wouldn't fit in a mATX case without some modding.

cooler / more efficient ? The 2900 requires external power, the 2600s don't.

the 2900 is also $400+ and you could get a pair of 2600s for less than $300.

Right, but what I'm saying, at the end of the day, 1 2900 is a better value than 2 2600's. It'll last longer in terms of performance, and it's gonna be cooler. If you spend $300 on CF 2600's they might last you 6 months, vs a 2900 that might last you closer to a year.

Would you rather have an 8800 or 2x 8600s? The 8800 would perform better, last longer, and probably be cooler too.

this board will serve its purpose. that purpose is definitely not full atx top shelf gaming rig.

two 2900 watercooled in a fusion would work beautifully on my 60" in the living room and leave my gaming rig in my bedroom.

they are easy to change over to single slot brackets aswell.
