I'm not exactly sure where to put this... Since it's HD related I figured I'd put it here...
I have an iRiver iHP-140 (I love it) and it just shows up as a drive to Windows (which is great). Since it is really just a 40gig HD with a FAT32 file system it seems very likely that as I move files on and off it that it will become fragmented (just like any other HD).
Because it shows up as a drive I can defrag it, but I'm not sure it's a good idea. It seems that I would probably not want to put all the extra wear and tear on the drive of defragmenting it because there is probably no real operational performance benefit to having no fragmentation.
Any thoughts?
