I rationalized it as I saved a 100 dollars on my I7 through retailedge, so I have another 100 dollars to spend on something else. Why not a shiny keyboard?

Seriously. There's a Canadian Deal-of-the-Day right now which puts the 3007WFP-HC at the Canadian equivalent of $780 USD, which is almost exactly what you'd get if you take the current US price of the monitor ($1049) and apply a 25% coupon to it (which Dell doesn't allow right now).
