So I decided to get an off-lease Dell Precision notebook. So far so good. I threw in an SSD and it seems to be running fine. Being the nerd that I am, I decided to remove the stock compound and switch it up for AS5. However...
I find that when I apply the thermal compound to the GPU like I'm supposed to (no dot, because it doesn't have an IHS, but spreading the thermal compound until it covers the surface), but I find that the compound makes NO contact with the GPU. So I added a little spot of AS5 and it's now making contact. But...
The GPU idles at 52 Celcius. Running Furmark makes it ramp up to 73 degrees Celcius, but the fan seems to be ramped up quite a bit. Is this normal? I should have taken a benchmark measurement on the GPU before I messed with the compound... Oh well.
