I hope it's not a TN panel.

Could be a good alternative to the HP LP2275w which has lots of reports of problems posted all over the internet (mostly related to buzzing of the inverter).

That article says it will go for AU459 or 309 USD. I've been out of the monitor loop for a while, is this a good price for a 22" IPS?

Yes it is ... I'm tempted to get one myself ... must hold off temptation ...
:D

Thanks for that SynergyID!

Yes, even with the limited connectivity of DVI and VGA, an IPS based 22" for $309 US would be a steal. Especially considering that the monitor seems to be close to a standard gamut screen, which is another plus, and as this posted review says, no oversaturated reds and greens.

1:1 pixel mapping can be handled by the video card anyways if need be, so this is no big deal, and it works with VGA on Xbox 360, as the 360 now supports 1680x1050 as a "native" resolution. Not important, but an advantage IMHO.

This one looks to be a winner in my books judging from the specs, especially if the worst they can say about it is that the panel is deeply set by 8mm.

Sounds very nice to me.

I sure hope its released soon in the US though.

I really need a monitor.

But I think I can hang in there until this baby comes out...

Yeah. I probably would have got this instead of my NEC if it was around. Could have saved a ton of cash. But this being Dell you have to be careful, could be IPS today and VA tomorrow.

Hey, it's Columbia Center!

I wonder what this one will look like. Seems uncharacteristic of Dell to offer a good panel at a reasonable price, usually they plop a couple hundred dollars on the price tag just because of the Ultrasharp brand.

Good points. TFT Central also expressed concerns about it in their news section (they looked at the 2209WA on Dell's Canadian website).

True and I got a PVA on the first 2007wfp they sent me but I called em and told em the colors shifted and viewing angles were bad and that wouldn't work for photo editing and they quickly replaced it with an IPS (for free, no shipping charges).

Same here. You saved me from making the 2007WFP mistake and entering the panel lottery of disappointment a couple of years ago. But then all the standard gamut monitors slowly but steadily fell off the map.

It's up on the Canadian web site for $369.99. This is approximately $75.00 less than the HP LP2275W.

My only concern is the lack of specs, and the mention of "TrueColor" which is usually wide gamut in Dell terminology. The Cnet review mentions 83%, so we will see. I guess we can say it's a "little wide gamut".

Should be soon. They have drivers and other info up on the US side.

Even the Canadian side is saying "1 to 2 weeks" for shipping time currently. I doubt it will be more than a week to appear on the US side.

So is there any word on the U.S. release date?

Somebody in Canada buy it already and give us more information :p

I am pretty set on pulling the trigger as soon as this baby comes out. I am a little disappointed it's not 1080p, as I am planning on editing HD video, but the hilarious part of editing HD footage is that most of the time you are staring at a small preview box of your video editing software, so a 1080p screen wouldn't really help. For actually watching HD footage, I think I can live with the downscaling to 1680, it will still look really good.

My only concern has to do with hooking up an Xbox 360. I mean the monitor has DVI or VGA, but if I get an HDMI to DVI cable then there would be no sound coming out of the 360, am I correct? I guess I could use VGA port instead...

What do you guys think would be the best way of hooking it up to this monitor?

If your monitor is being share dby both the computer and the Xbox 360 and if your PC has a optical audio in. One option is to use an audio optical cable and have the sound going directly into your sound card. You would need to buy the Xbox 360 HDMI cable kit, an optical cable, and an HDMI to DVI converter.

You can use your standard 360 A/V cable for optical audio if you break open the plastic connector shell. However you may also have to put scotch tape over the leftmost 3 pins on the bottom of the A/V connector, as having two video cables confuses some 360s.

Ghetto, but you save $50.

Very nice with this 22-inch IPS.

But has anyone seen any 100% confirmation that this is a IPS?

^ I use this onehttp://www.tftcentral.co.uk/panelsearch.htm

Since its a new panel, we don't have the manufacturer panel specs yet so panel search queries will return empty (their database relies on user inputs).

However, on some Dell regional sites they have plainly mentioned "In Plane Switching" instead of "e-IPS".

So it is definitely IPS. Good or bad implementation, that it is unknown at present.

They call it "In Panel Switching"
