If anything I would see Laptops being phased out and Desktops getting more and more powerful. Laptops will be replaced by Smartphones.

It's not like they are going to stop making desktops anytime soon, nor the parts I upgrade.

Considering that phones get more and more features of laptops and laptops keep getting smaller, I think their will be a point where they are one and the same. Just look at netbooks. Its getting closer.

A recent report by NPD claims that 60% of consumers who purchased a netbook instead of a notebook thought their netbooks would have the same functionality as notebooks.
