Have been using this powercolor adapter for around 6 months http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815309008 on a dell 2007wfp when i notice a hissing sound coming from the monitor. I look over and the monitor reboots once and shuts off when a small puff of smoke comes off the back. i put an old apple display in its place and an hour later its shuts off after i heard a loud pop, has anyone ever seen these adapters kill monitors?
btw that adapters never being used again, maybe il get the accell one

Did you use the same power cord with the Apple display? I wouldn't think that a display adapter would cause an event such as ones that you've described, as the adapter would've likely fried your video card as well.

Who knows, though? Anyone else have any opinions on this?

They used there own cord but all the monitors and computer where on the same battery backup

Might be time to get rid of that battery backup as well, unless you're willing to test it first, or risk another monitor on it.
