DisplayPort out to iMac?

I have an iMac with DisplayPort (2010/11 model I believe, right before thunderbolt), and I can connect my MBP to it via DisplayPort.

In building a new small fileserver, i've found a few MiniITX mobos that have DisplayPort. Has anyone ever tried to connect this to an iMac?
I'd hate to spend the extra money getting it and it not work.
The whole reason I want it is because I only have 2 "displays" now, my 27" iMac, and my 50" Panny TV. My server is headless, but occasionally I need a screen for it.

Any DisplayPort compliant device should work. Using converters is iffy. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3924

Yeah, seems only mini to mini displayport, aka thunderbolt, only will work.
No Intel Mobo has MiniDisplayport.

Not really wrong forum, I'm looking at Intel Mobos

Mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort would work as well. It's the same exact type, just one is smaller.
