Does the 7800 gt require an external power connector ?

One of my friends told me that the 7800 gt requires an external power connector that attaches to the Mobo... I haven't used a connector like this, yet my card works fine... do I need to use this connector..?

Yeah, the 7800GT uses a 6 pin PCI-Express power connector. You either use the 6 pin cable from the PSU, or use the molex to 6 pin adapter that comes with the card.

All PCI Express cards that use more power than the x16 slot provides (75W) use an extra power connector.
