Does this look right?

I picked up a GTX 470 SC yesterday to bench it against my GTX 460 SC and I am curious as to what you guys think about these results.

EVGA GTX 460 SC Edition Clocked to 850/1700/2000

Vantage = 8284
Heaven = 40/994
FC2 Ultra Settings = 69
Metro 2033 High = 36
Metro 2033 Very High = 30

EVGA GTX 470 SC Edition Clocked to 800/1600/1700

Vantage = 9571
Heaven = 50/1259
FC2 Ultra Settings = 69
Metro 2033 High = 41
Metro 2033 Very High = 31

Resolution is 1920 x 1200, the CPU a Q9550 and I had to overvolt both cards to get those OC numbers.

Q9550 at stock? You could try looking at your GPU/CPU usage in GPU-z and CPU-z to look for bottlenecks

Most comparisons I've seen show the GTX 460 at max overclock approaching the 470 at stock, so your results dont mesh with that. Donno

True, HOWEVER those numbers for the 470 are overclocked numbers not stock settings! That is why I posted because I thought there would be a bigger margin.

For further reference here are the number for the 470 @ stock speeds.

EVGA GTX 470 SC Edition Stock Clock

Vantage = 7798
Heaven = 41/1038
FC2 Ultra Settings = 68
Metro 2033 High = 37
Metro 2033 Very High = 27

I went back through my numbers and realized the benchmarking I did on the 470 did not include the OC of the processor. Here are the new numbers after making sure the 9550 was at 3.4 and the 470 was at 800 core.

Vantage = 9614
Heaven = 50/1259
FC2 Ultra Settings = 79
Metro 2033 High = 44
Metro 2033 Very High = 32

Yeah, but still not sure if the 470 overclocked is worth the extra $50 based on the numbers.

Final results and and a question for the crew

EVGA GTX 460 SC @ 850/2000

Vantage = 8309
Heaven = 39/987
FC2 Ultra = 74/106/52
Metro 2033 High = 40/85/5
Metro 2033 Very = 27/73/6
FFIV High = 3058

EVGA GTX 470 @ 800/1700

Vantage = 9594
Heaven = 50/1263
FC2 Ultra = 79/128/56
Metro 2033 High = 43/92/11
Metro 2033 Very = 32/80/8
FFIV High = 4276

In this scenario is the 470 really worth the $40 premium over the GTX 460? In games we are talking only 5fps.

Dont forget to add at higher resolutions, the 1.2 gig of ram will help, compare to the 1 gig on the 460.

Doesnt look like it in that scenario, except for the minimum framerate of Metro 2033.

I am not gaming any higher than 1920 x 1200 and that resolution is what I have been benchmarking at.

I imagine as you continue to overclock the 9550 the delta between the boards will grow. You added 600mhz to your cpu and gained a good bit on the 470. You should be able to take that to at least 3.8ghz.

That bottleneck aside, the numbers look about right. Overclocked 460's are beastly (I just bought one) but from reviews I have seen the 470 has significantly better minimum framerates and AA scaling.
