Dual core patch for Intel?

I just got my first C2D processor and this i was reading some stuff about how the AMD processor should have a patch for it to fix the affinity problems encountered when playing certain single threaded games...do you need to get some sort of patch like this for Intel processors as well???

The AMD patch doesn't have anything specific in it to AMD. It works fine on all dual-cores.

Is it worth installing, will I notice any sort of performance advantage if I use it?

I guess my real question is, beyond the fact that single threaded games run slower on dual core machines sometimes, what does this patch actually do?

No , don't install it.

Intel DC CPUs never required any DC patch or something similar to work well.

I believe this is the patch you're referring to:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/909944/
(related to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/896256)

It has to do with the fact that each CPU/core can have its own timestamp counter, and they can run at different speeds because of power saving features.
The patch synchronizes the timestamp counters on all cores, so there won't be any timing problems.
Intel synchronizes its timers in hardware if I'm not mistaken, which is why Intel never required this patch for their dualcores.
It won't hurt to install it though.
