dual socket motherboards

So...

Are there any dual socket motherboards that offer HA for cpu failures?

Or is this the case with most MP systems?
 
Not that I know of. If you want High Availability for cpus thats what clusters are for. CPUs don't fail much your more likely to get bad capacitors on the motherboard then you are a cpu failure
 
Yeah,

My co-workers are saying that the reason to have a dual cpu server is for HA.

Id be willing to bet if one cpu shit the bed, the system would halt.

IMO FAIL.

Very high end system can do Hot CPU add and Replace but these are 5 figures + and require Windows Datacenter or a heavy weight Linux distros.
