I'm not sure where to start but I think it's not completely the drive's fault. I have one drive in my PC which I recently built for someone. System runs great but whenever I try to rip, listen or copy from the CD the system slows down like a mofo and it makes like those matrix-ish sounds (you know when Neo takes the blue pill :D )...

I tried different drives too and same thing would happen... I have no clue what could be. Is it cables, something with motherboard maybe, connection?
I really have no clue and any ideas would be appreciated.

First thing you can check is to make sure DMA is enabled on the IDE controller channel you have the drive connected to.

ok I will.

Also this is dual core pentium proc and it seems that it's not coresponding right when accessing things from CD/DVD roms.. Is there like a optimizer for Pentium Duos like there's optimizer for Athlon X2's?
