I'm thinking about buying an Xbox controller, because I heard good things about them from emulator perspectives. What is your alls experience with it?

Depends on what kind of emulation you're talking about... for 8bit and 16bit era, nothing beats the PlaySEGA saturn clone controller.

For more modern emulation the 360 controller is pretty nice... but I've always preferred the playstation controller.. it's all a matter of preference.

XBox controller is also usable in many PC titles without requiring additional configuration if that's a factor for you. Personally I prefer a PS2 controller for emulation though, and you manually configure emulation bindings in the first place.

Sega Saturn USB controller is the best for fighting games because it has the exact same six button layout that most of the arcade fighting games had.

I'm waiting for my Saitek Cyborg 360 controller to arrive in my mailbox. Probably get to test it in two weeks when I next get back home. :( Or send an angry e-mail asking where the hell is my controller.
Oh and I will be playing PS and Nintendo 64 with it.

I just use a usb adapter for playstation1/2 controllers. Working great.

Make sure that your Xbox controller (the original one) is the original xbox controller -- ie, has Microsoft logo in the middle of it... Because when you do the modification, you lose out from the force feedback. I have several Xbox controllers, but only the Microsoft one worked.

On other hand, I absolutely love my xbox controller for Project 64 / 1964. Playing Zelda: Ocarina of Time was a blast because I had the force feedback too.

Same here, for most emulation stuff i just use the adapter and ps2 controller. For everything else the 360 controller is king.

I use a rumble pad 2 for old Sega and Nes/SuperNes emu. No problems once I get it set up properly.

I used an USB adapter for my PS2 controller for years. Now I have converted over to a 360 controller.

360 controller here, that is before the recent so-cal earthquake managed to kill anything and everything Xbox related...

I have a gamecube to USB adapter. I been using that because I like the n64 games and it has the best joystick

The 360 controller works pretty well for the Dolphin wii emulator. If you are planning on just playing PCSX2 or older emulators, the logitech dual analog playstation clones work great.

i used to use an MS 360 wired controller for emulators, works great. except for fighting games. (i felt the controller was uncomfortable for it)

Oh, just an update. I did end up buying a Xbox 360 controller. Working very nicely so far.

Unfortunately, I think I agree with you. :( But no matter, it still works wonderfully
