Alrighty...I took the $309 deal on the evga 7800GT CO and I recieved it today. Here's the exact card I ordered: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130256

I had issues with the .02 BIOS so I flashed it to .03 which was supposed to fix it. However the card still wants to default to 519 core and 1160 memory instead of 560/1200 as it was with the .02 BIOS. (460/1100 "should" be stock). Currently , I have it downclocked to the 'correct' speed settings with CoolBits, but I still get lockups or very long pauses, over 20 seconds, in games. Additionally DoD:S had some artifacts, but only on the menu, not while playing. Has anybody else had this issue? Should I continue downclocking the card til it's stable and just RMA it when I can?

I have a post regarding this problem on the evga forums also: http://evga.com/community/messageboard/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9037

That link is for the incorrect version of the video card. You almost made my sh*t myself seeing that price ($319). Also, there is no way you paid $309 for the CO version. That price is for the N516 the CO version is the N517. I got the CO last week for $369 and they are now $349. The correct link is:

Ummm...actually, yes I did. Newegg had a $10 instant coupon for evga 7800 cards and it had free shipping so I got the N516 model for $309.

BTW there are multiple versions of the CO card. The only difference between these 2 is that the N516 has a slower core clock by 10mhz.

Yeah, my bad....the 516 is 460/1100 and the 517 is 470/1100 both are CO's

Indeed they are...

When I popped this card in, its stock settings were 470/1200 and not 460/1100. I also have the .02 BIOS also. So 470/1200 doesn't fly too well. Is it the BIOS the ONLY thing that is preventing this card from achieving 470/1200?

By the way, that card was a CO even though i didn't know that when I ordered it. I thought it was just a regular HS card. I am glad I snagged a card with a copper HS for that price though. :)

I got the N517 card a couple of days ago.
I have the latest BIOS on it but it gives horrible artifacts in windows sometimes when I bootup that require me to reboot until it fixes the problem.
Games lock up most of the time.

I underclocked the core down to 445 from its "stock" 470 which made it somewhat more stable.
Im going to RMA this with Newegg for another one. If I get another one and its still like it Im just going to get another card.

I have two N517 CO's in SLI. Never touched the bios (why would you want to?), and have had zero problems. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

guys with problems, go to eVGA's website and visit their community forum there. All the bios's and help you will ever need will be there...

how do you do this, get a replacement brand i mean? Isn't their policy just to send you a new card of the same brand if you RMA one?

actually, the only "solutions" you hear at that website are "Your 500 watt PSU sux0rz" and the obligatory "check your memory". All an admin/tech says is make sure your bios is up to date.
