Hi.

I purchased an EVGA 256-P2-N761-TR e-Geforce 8600 GTS 256mb Video Card. Yes, I know it's not the latest and greatest, but it's what I've got for my first build.

Here's my question: I'm planning on purchasing a widescreen 22'' (IPS or MVA) display which features a 1680x1050 native resolution. The Resolution Chart from the 8600GTS Spec Sheet does not list 1680x1050. I would assume this means the 8600GTS is not compatible with widescreen monitors with 1680x1050 native resolutions.

So, do I need to get a new video card? And, what is the most affordable video card that does support 1680x1050? I have read reviews where users are saying they are running 22" widescreens playing games at 1680x1050 and it looks fine. So, as usual, I'm confused.

BTW, I am not interested in gaming. This build will be used for photo work, web design, browsing, movie watching and lots of word processing (i.e. I like crisp, clean text!)

Thanks for any input you may have.

That chart is merely listing the maximum refresh rates for resolutions that were common at the time, not what resolutions it can display. The refresh rates were only relevant for CRTs, since virtually all LCDs run at 60Hz. The 8600GTS will run 1680x1050 with no problems.
