yeah, I really wanted a 216-core myself... but for around $100 less, I couldn't resist

heck, $149.99 barely gets you an 8800GT at NewEgg, lol

Repeat after me..

"I do not need a new video card"

Feel better now? I've done my good deed for the day.

I saw that this morning and I was thinking man I do not need to do SLI with my existing 260........

Actually, I did need a new video card, though.

My daughter's gaming requirements have increased significantly since Christmas.. and the best I had to offer her was 7800GT's in SLI or an X1950PRO (which I'm actually still waiting for, lol)

Was hoping to score an 8800 series or 9800 series, but this will do MUCH better :D

If only I had the coin for 2, though. I KNOW my wife is gonna be jealous, lmao

haha I hear you man. I'm still holding out with a single 7800GT. Trying to save for a post-graduation vacation. The urge to play Left 4 Dead at 1920x1200 is quickly taking over as I see these video card prices dropping, however.

You could always buy a used 8800GT for peanuts, which would still be light years better then the 7800GT.

On topic: that is extremley tempting...

I was actully contemplating that HD4830 for $65AR at newegg. I am assuming this would satisfy my gaming needs quite well. The GTX260 might be a little overkill for me right now.

yeah right... NOT

Have you check the going rate for 8800's in FS/FT?? Ridiculous.

Some have been as low as $60-$80, which is fine if you're lucky enough to beat everyone else to it (at that price they get scooped up quick).
Sadly, most of them are still being listed at $110 to $150. I know, 'cause I've been watching since December!

I was thinking more along the ebay route. I was looking at unloading my 2 8800gt's and upgrading to something else. The moving rate when I looked appeared to be about $40 each. That was a few weeks ago when the 280 clearance deals were showing up, so not sure if that has changed.

More then $80 is just unrealistic for a 8800gt compared to what you can get for $100 now.

EXACTLY!!

Hey, if you're serious about $40/ea... I'll take those 8800's from you ;)

They'd be a decent upgrade for my 7800GT-SLI system :D

LMK

must resist checking the Hot deals at hardforum for a few weeks... c/c can't handle the load! :D

Fry's deal is dead, it's up to $269 - $30 MIR = $239

NewEgg link is still good, $199 - $20 MIR = $179

So I have a core 216 would this run in SLI with the one they are selling here?

180+tax = $196 -$30=$166 total + gas + time. Newegg had the 55nm 216SP evga card for $179.99AR a week or two ago. ~$10 more for a newer 55nm and 216 makes this.. hot but not hot enough :)

Yes but it would only use 192 stream processors on both cards. Thus you will want to have the 216 as your top card for the game that doesn't support sli.

Deals dead as they come, bummer too, was building a system for a relative tomorrow and all the parts are coming from Fry's

The deal was only supposed to be in store. If you have a Fry's near you it's still valid in store i grabbed a copy of the paper after seeing this and it's in the ad correctly. 199.99 - 20 dollar instant = 179.99 (out the door at store) - 30 dollar mail in making it $149.99 AR for this card. i've called my fry's to verify and they said yes the ad is correct. They put my name on one and it's @ customer services :) i'll be going by after work.

Went by the Fry's in San Jose (off Brokaw) and found 6 still sitting there for 179 - 30 rebate. Decided not to pick it up since it wasn't 55nm or 216 core. And I haven't the funds :p

in store pick up available for me. Im hoping its the 216 version, since i've read here that people have gotten the core 216 even though they purchased the evga 192 box. If not, its all good, since its barely a difference between the two.

Just out of curiosity (because I've been out of the vid card game for a bit) how much better would this card outperform my 8800gt?

Mother F....... must resist... I cant!!!

By a long shot. I upgraded to a regular 260 192 when they first came out from my 9800GTX, and it was a pretty good performance increase.

Well, I'm the type that doesn't like to upgrade constantly. My current rig has lasted me about 2.5-3 years with great performance. So if I were to jump on this, I would use the card for at least that period of time.

These have overheat issues and are power mongers meng. Why 2 year warranty, aint it suppoe to be lifetime? I have doubts as modern cards should run green these days, these card are power mongers, not good for environment, think of coal miners and black lungs when you use 1200 watts to watch porn and play video games noobs. Sad. :(
