Ive just recently gotten into modding and OC'ing.

I hear people talk about stepping, and I have no clue what their refering too.

Example:

"...my stepping is AQUCA..."

Or something of the sort. Can someone please explain that to me, how to find my own stepping, etc, etc...

Thanks,

A basic explanation...

Stepping is a little code on the CPU that describes where, when, it was produced.

When a manufacturer is building a CPU, they make subtle changes as they build it in various batches of silicon. So maybe week 1, they've got this entirely new design. They decide that next week that they can make a couple changes to improve things or stop some bugs, so they change the design a little and now you have a week 2 CPU. (this is just an example)

Some steppings overclock better, that's why people care so much.

Is there any program, similar to cpu-z, that will tell you what stepping you have?

Not that I know of, you have to get your CPU out and actually look at it.
