Does any company sell an external drive case that will turn on and off with a pc similiar to the way WD/Seagate external drives do? I am looking at a Asus O!play/WD Live/Patriot Box office and in considering having a big HDD sitting right next to it, I'd rather see it power on and off with the unit vs via switch (the wife would never want to remember to do that)....

Most any of the 2.5" form factor ones that are powered by the USB port will.

Got an iomega here connect to work computer.
Have a Vantec 2.5 USB at home I put together.

Howveer; the 3.5" eSATA Vantecs I have do not, have their own power supplies.

ah, I hadnt thought about the usb powered ones, thats a good idea....thanks for the brain un-freeze

In case you are looking for 3.5" enclosures: You may consider the Vantec NST-370GX or something similar. It has an option to power up when it sees power from the USB line, and power off when the USB power disappears. I have one of these and it seems to work fine. The version I linked to is IDE, I dunno if there is an SATA version available.
