It would seem Facebook has deleted several inmate accounts after prisoners were using the site to plot with other criminals and to intimidate witnesses. In other news, convicted criminals in the UK have Facebook pages. :eek:

Facebook has deleted the pages of 30 U.K. prisoners at the request of the British government, the justice minister announced Thursday, after several incidents in which inmates reportedly used the Internet to plot with criminals and intimidate victims.

because if they don't have internet or massages or PS3 or plasma TV's they riot

the sad fact is I aint joking either :( (check the news for abt 5years ago)

The same reason we are paying for their cable TV, complete gym, educational system, health care, and everything else.
 
Someone should make a nice prison gang application for facebook for those prisoners who find virtual farming too boring.
 
I want to know if the "criminals" that were intimidating witnesses got jail time?
Interfering with witnesses should carry the same penalty as the original crime.

If there was actually a meaningful deterrant to criminal behavior, 80% of lawyers and judges would be on welfare. Oh shit, no, they would be employed by the RIAA. :D
 
The first time I read that headline I read it as 30K UK inmates. I was thinking that was a shitload of inmates online.
 
It shocks me that they have time to be surfing the internet with all the ass pounding that should be going on in the slam.

I was reading this article during lunch and it said that social networking among the prison population is a prison rule violation. Those who accessed Facebook did so with contraband cellphones and smartphones.

Did you ever think that maybe those stories are only about 50% accurate and its hyped up so the good people fear jail and don't think its a paid for hotel stay.

I know two guys that were raped while behind bars for years. So I'd have to say no, the stories are probably about on target.

Of course it is going to depend on where you are locked up at.
 
Well prisoners in the US have had cable TV for many many years. Why not give them all internet access now too? Hell, give them all their own PC so they can surf porn in their little cages. Lets meke prison as easy and pleasurable as we possibly can.
 
It is more about guard safety. Think about it for a second. If inmates have nothing to do, not even a TV to watch some of them especially lifers would kill the guards. Yes they are being punished but bottom line there still humans that need to be occupied throughout the day. If your looking at 25 years at least give them cable TV! No, they don't have PC's in there cells don't be silly guys jeez...

I've never been to prison (thank god) and I hope I never do, but from what I've heard, the whole 'prison bitch' thing is more of an American cultural thing, its just not as widespread in the rest of the world.

That said, the US has the largest (proportional) prison population in the world, so that might be a factor. There is a bit of dialogue in GTAIV between Niko and Brucie on the subject that pretty much sums up what I've read elsewhere.


As for this actual case, from what I've read its mostly a step up from school bullies taunting their victims outside school, I'm surprised no one in the prison service saw it coming.
 
OMG, they are deleting their FB accounts over there? Next thing you know, they will start rearranging their Tea Time! This just will not do, it is not civilized!
 
Did some IT work in a catagory A and B prison for the Ministry of Justice l(UK) ast year.
Didn't look all that cushy to me.

Bloody checks to get in took an hour, but I could claim that back :D
 
Way to many perks for inmates. Jail time should be FEARED... not a lifestyle adjustment as it appears to many. Hell, I've heard stories of people purposely committing a small crime, just to be sentenced 3-4 months, getting them through the winter season.

I've always supported a punishment structure like Singapore's "lashing". The consequence of doing a crime should be FEARED and that fear will be the subconscious thought going through your head seconds before you commit said crime, ultimately talking you away from doing it in the first place. ... If the person still does the crime anyway, well...then that is why God inspired man to create the gallows.
