I'm not saying we all need to get jobs with the federal government but....we all need to get federal government jobs. :D

An employee at the U.S. Office of the Trustee — an arm of the Justice Department charged with overseeing the integrity of the bankruptcy system — spent up to five hours a day on the job looking at pornography, visiting more than 2,500 adult websites during 2011, investigators found.

Five hours? I want to meet these people. Most of the guys I know take less than five minutes when there's an actual real life naked something or other around.

Could be worse.
They could actually be doing their jobs and harassing people/companies.

Government jobs. 'nuff said.

2,500 porn sites?! Damn. I know of a few big ones, but what are these guys looking at? German specialized porn? Even then, I'd have a hard time finding 2,500 sites. These guys need to stop jerking around the system and get back to work.

2500+ sites? 5 hours a day? How many days? Did they find this person under their desk quivering uncontrollably in the fetal position?

Well depends on which workers you're talking about, the ones surfing the porn or the ones forced to clean up afterwards.
I wonder what the IT budget for mice/ keyboards is? Or do you think they just pass out boxes of cellophane as "keyboard condoms?"

Man, I want these jobs. At least I would do something useful. 5 hours of porn, holy freakin' cow.

Meh most tracking software counts links and ads as a site visited even if you don't click on them. My co-worker apparently visited 15 million sites in the last 5 months. He just left the internet up when he was doing searches so all of the links and ads on all of his pages which were up counted against him.

It's the federal workers' union that blocks that. That union is the most powerful union in the country, and blocks any attempts to fire employees, no matter how bad the offense is. There have been people convicted of stealing computer equipment from their office that could not be fired because of their union. That woman in the EPA that was smearing her feces on the walls was kept from being fired and offered psychological treatment because of their union. Surfing porn is slightly less egregious than that, so, of course they weren't fired.

Yeah, considering all the abuses we've seen over the years that have gone unpunished I don't know why anyone would expect something as minor as not working and surfing porn instead would result in any punishment.

Hmm, I work for the IRS, I am apparently mismanaging my time.

I work for a different agency but I'm thinking the same thing. ;)

I surf at [H] all day. It's not porn but just as addicting. ;p

Apparently it's the only "gaming" site that's not blocked.

Hah, same here. Our proxy blocks all sites "gaming" related and does a decent job at it other than this site (which I wouldn't really classify as a gaming site).

Only 5 hours? There have been people I worked with who did that before lunch.

Funny thing is, at all three of the agencies I used to work for this was on the short list of things that could actually get you fired. The fact that it still happens at all baffles me.

Then again, I'm glad I'm not in the govt sector anymore.

Hmmm, I wonder if playing an MMO all day will net you a raise and a promotion? I'm in the wrong business.

The most powerful union in the US is still the UAW, United Auto Workers, by far and away. The Fed Gov is in fact the largest employer, but not ALL workers are covered by the same union...

So, seeing as you sound so "authoritative" on the subject, just what arm of the Fed are you employed by?

I work for the DoD branch, and MY union, can not, nor will it even try, to save your job if you are doing anything that is a "fireable offense", stealing, pornography, sexual harassment etc...

Just because one worker, in one branch, gets by with one thing, does not mean ALL Fed workers are free to do fuck-all... Your asinine comment about the Union is just a baseless, uninformed, incorrect blanket statement.

Well it's so much easier for people to believe everything at face value than to: A) realize there are approximately 2.5 million federal (FTE) workers not including the military and B) put the crap that you read into perspective and for crying out loud understand that the human condition exists everywhere.

I've seen many people have their military career effectively ended for searching porn at work.

It's well known that fan tail gold fish enthusiasts like CUG are horrid perverts.

Only an clueless comet goldfishy lover would think this has anything to do with the superior breed the other side prefers rather than the wall clock thing saying how much (little) time passes.

I've seen rapists, women abusers, thiefs, and drug addicts keep jobs in the army too. Now when the supply shop accidently ordered cocaine from the supply gods that was funny :p
