FFxi --PlayOnline registration code help

I just purchased FFxi from a friend and when I try to register to playonline it says the key is invalid (i am putting the key in correctly, including upper-case letters). My friend had de-activated his account a few months ago so i don't know why the key should be invalid. any ideas?

You're not going to like the answer, but Square Enix deletes the account keys after 3 months of inactivity, requiring you to buy a new copy of FFXI to play the game.

There was a bug when it first came out that made it so that it was deleting keys the second you take the account off your credit card, but now it's 3 months.

You may try reading up on it on their website, because I'm pretty sure it's stated there, unless they've changed it.

so you need the account he used, not the key code

If he does not have the account # you can call square and get the info. Thats what I had to do when I reactivated my account.
