Thanks everyone for the help. I compared a ton of models. Probably the biggest help to me was Snowdog's posts talking about his NEC. I think the term "go a for a good TN or go for the best IPS" is a great line of approach. There seems to be quality control issues with the "inbetweens". In the end I decided on the Samsung T240 HD, which is shockingly good. TN has come a long in way in just a couple years. The colors are as good as my CRT, and the viewing angles are a big improvement over my 19 inch Samsung LCD that I have had for a couple of years. I notice no input lag at all(CS:S). Text is clear and sharp, there is minimal backlight bleeding and the monitor itself looks fantastic.
I was hesitant about staying with TN, but there have been some big strides. I'll ride this one out until OLED makes it's way.
