For you HT Audio peeps - what crossover do you use for your sub?

I'm mainly using my receiver/speaker/sub combo for music listening. What crossover would you recommend for music? I've kept it at 60 hz for a long time @ 50% volume - but it quickly fatigues the ears or is insanely loud. I dropped it to 40 hz today and I'm enjoying it more, but Hope I'm not cutting out intended bass response.

Setup:

Yamaha RX-V363 5.1 Receiver
2 x Insignia NB-2111 Bookshelves
2 x BIC Venturi Bookshelves
1 x Yamaha YST-SW216 8" Subwoofer (Digital)

for stereo setup, whatever gives me the smoothest bass transitions

the hometheater, 80hz (make sure you are letting the receiver control the crossover)

Sub placement may be a problem too. I'll play around.

Maybe I'll try it at 80 hz and turn the LFE volume down.

I have a flat single surface desk. The sub sits directly to the right of the desk next to the wall.

I think I figured it out. I turned it back to 80 hz, then dropped the volume through the receiver. It seems to be more natural sounding now.

like I said I have mine set to 80hz and generally I rarely increase the volume on my sub beyond 25%. but most of that is dependent on listening preference.
