I just changed my drivers from the 66.00 to the 65.76 drivers and my performance went up over 20%! I run at 1600x1200, Ultra Quality, 2XAA, 16AF, Vsync On and with the 66.00 I would consistently get 42 FPS. after loading the 65.76 drivers and no other changes to the system my FPS jumped to 52 FPS consistantly and on top of that the video quality improved, no more jittery lights when you come across some of the extreme bright lights like in the excavation area. All my settings are at Max quality.

Definitly recommend the new 65.76 drivers to anyone with a Gefore 6800GT.

System Config:
P4 Northwood 3.0 on Intel 875 chipset MBD
Leadtek GeForce 6800GT 400/1100 @ 68C core
2GB DDR400
Twin 250GM SATA WD HDD's
20" LCD
XP SP2 Installed
Logitech MX700

Something must have been wrong with your 66.00 driver installation if you see a 20% improvement with 65.76.

Finally having the on-board DVD/MPEG-4 decoding working is pretty nice though.

I doubt that since I did the the same clean install with the 66.00's but anything's possible, I'd be curious of others who give these a try.

Also if you read on the TCMagazine.net link they too had a considerable leap in performance.

No it's true these drivers are King of OGL for sure...These allow me to get high 50's timedemo demo1 @ 1600x1200 with 4xaa/8xAF (unplayable before...well to me anything under 50's is unplayable in that timedemo once you get in game)

---and 61fps at 1600x1200 2xaa/8AF. In the latter that's up about 8-10fps I would say from my last driver set, all of which were about the same (and I've tried them all from 61.77). I got 72fps at 12x10 with 4xaa..smokin'!

Anyway, I don't know how these perform in far cry cause I'm still pissed at not getting the 1.3 patch (1.2 smokes for me thoough and the image quality was incredible with 65.73's...it's just I lost 5.1 stereo) but I'd like to know how these fair with D3d apps too. Something I see from the guru site is these drivers install thanks to their tweak with coolbits 2 installed. Anyone have a link to the drivers without the coolbits 2 tweak or know how to remove the tweak from this driver set?

These drivers are really awesome! and not just for OpenGL. In Tribes:Vengeance, I was getting ~30 FPS with no AA or AF using the 61.77 drivers. With the 65.76 drivers, I'm getting ~40 FPS with 4x AA and 4x AF! This is at 1024x768 on a 5600!

Are you sure you had vsync enabled?

I have, essentially, the same set-up as you and, with vsync off (everything else the same) I get ~54 fps--turn it on and it plunges to low 30s.

If you have some magic trick to make it run like that with vsync on, can I have the incantation?

ECM, I'm sure I have it on, the drivers are set to application select and Doom3 has it enabled. do you have 2GB's of memory? that makes all the difference. 1GB at those settings can't handle it.

Yep, I have 2 gigs of RAM but I'm at least 20 fps behind you with vsync on.

The drivers also have an extra tab in the nvidia control panel that i found interesting, an AGP tab, where you can set AGP settings and are also able to turn off fast writes...

also, clock frequency settings are adjustable w/o need for coolbits reg editing. :p

just installed, will run a 3dmark2k3 and post back soon...

just ran 3dmarks2k3...

with 61.77 driver : 11080
with 65.76 driver : 10788

lost 400... hmmm. uninstalled the 61.77 drivers, so don't think it's a driver conflict.

specs:

athlon 64 3200+ (stock speed)
1ghz ultra ddr pc3200 ram
xfx 6800 gt (370mhz/1ghz)
80 gb western SATA hd
soundblaster live! 5.1
windows xp sp2

any thoughts?

Ya, screw synthetics. Go bench some games.

Has anyone benched these drivers with Far Cry yet?

I second that request and would also like to see some more benchies from D3D games. We all know that the Nvidia cleans house in OGL.

Here's what I got moving from 66.00 to 65.76:

66.00
-----
3dmark2003: 10196
Doom3: 56.9fps (1280x1024 @ Ultra detail, 2xAA 8xAF)
FarCry: 43.05fps (1280x1024 @ All max, 4xAA 16xAF, SM3.0)

65.76
-----
3dmark2003: 10274
Doom3: 59.9fps (1280x1024 @ Ultra detail, 2xAA 8xAF)
FarCry: 43.78fps (1280x1024 @ All max, 4xAA 16xAF, SM3.0)

I also had a problem with colors in video files being badly distorted using 66.00. Switching to 65.76 fixed this. I haven't tested the performance of the hardware video decoder yet since I use hardware decoding on my audio for DVDs, and you can't use both hardware decode methods at the same time (at least not with WinDVD).

in answer to my own question, simply:

This also gives you Vsync and Application profiles, hence 'NvCplEnableAppProfilePage'. BUT you will lose OpenGL and Direct3d tabs. There is no way I have found that lets you have all the tabs simultaneously.

you can find that entry with regedit.

edit: rivatuner was resetting my 65.76 core speed back to 370MHz for some reason.

corrected results are below...

Fucknutters, I just got around to installing the 76s today, now new drivers are out. Yeesh.

no shi_, i thought the same thing when i saw the new thread.

anyways, these 76s are bunk drivers. not only did i lose framerates, but full screen video was all fcuked up. my wintv tuner, divx player, windows media player, all buggy in full screen modes... went right back to normal after i uninstalled the 76s and reinstalled the 61.77.

i might try the new ones i guess.

i think the lesson (for me) is, just wait for the driver from nvidia's website... ;)

Another update to my original thread, now including 65.76 and 66.31: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=798049. I fixed the problem I had before and edited my original post above. These results are accurate for 65.76.

Don't pay too much attention to the big increase between 65.76 and 66.31 vs older driver sin CS:S VST. Valve changed the benchmark slightly so you can't directly compare the scores.

66.31 are nice drivers.

did any of you use the "detect optimal settings" option int the clock frequencies? I used it and it boosted my GT to 430/1.11, so I like it. Running an artifact test now to see what it does.
