Foxconn BlackOps X48 - $130 AR + free shipping @ newegg

Exactly, if it was DDR2 I'd be all over this.... but alas.

Still good though, matches the shell shocker deal a few weeks back.

I was at Fry's today, they had 2x1 GB for $50 with no rebates. 4gb for $100 isn't bad.

True...it kind of defeats the purpose when you have to spend extra money to get memory, but you end up with DDR3 in the end vs. DDR2. Probably a wash vs. a less expensive DDR2 board.

Well, with a board this cheap, it helps to keep the overall cost of buying into DDR3 pretty low. The only other way of doing it is going Core i7, and the cheapest board for that is still over $200.

Basically, a DDR3-based system using this board is cheaper than a DDR3-based system using Core i7. The big benefit will be that if you decide to switch over to i7 or AM3 later in the year, you'll already have your memory to carry over.

EDIT:

I wonder, how does this board compete with the Gigabyte EP45-UD3P?
