Wow, I wanna pay close to $200 dollars for a mobo with a FREE CPU! ZOMG!

Not a hot deal.

if this deal is around monday it looks like i am going to get a good start on my htpc, I have an amd heatsink laying around

Hate the "Grab Bag" bit, but... in for one... it'll be my wife's new MB, if the CPU isn't up to doing what I want (in which case, the CPU will eventually find it's way into an HTPC I'm going to be building anyway....)

And of course, I need to find a fan.

Why.... why didn't they have this LAST WEEK!!!

Now I'm fighting myself from buying that mATX DFI 780GX board

Someone hurry up and buy them all up before I spend anymore money!

Any of them have HDMI out?
nm, just saw one.

Judges say.... This deal is hot.

well as far as i can tell:

$143 plus shipping

hot deal...

But you can get a 6000+. So it's better than that :p

That LanParty JR 790GX-M2RS would make a kick ass HTPC setup with one of the low wattage procs.

The LP Jr. is way too expensive, no wonder they have a deal with a free processor. However, Newegg has the LP Jr. for $149 (about the same price) which is about 1/3 more than I wanna pay for a matx replacement for my Biostar 780GX. Free processor or not, no thanks. I already have a 5400BE I can't get rid of, don't need another.

Also to note: Anyone who thinks the 780G chipset unlocks the X3 'extra core', you are wrong. You need ACC to unlock the extra core, which is not available with the 780G.

You need a 790GX, 790FX, or 790X chipset to even attempt.

No one here is talking about 780G nor is there any deal within OP's post about 780g...

The DFI is more expensive than the Biostar I agree but with this deal it evens out with the Biostar price. Also DFI has 3 years warranty which Biostar only has 1 year which I think it is pretty good :).

My only guess people want a tri-core with the 4th unlock core is to have the AMD Phenom II X4 945 which isn't in the market yet.

The Phenom II X4 940 is an AM2+ chip so no go on AM3 boards.

The Phenom II X4 810 only has 4MB cache instead of 6MB cache like the X4 945 and X3 720.

You do realize your on [H]ard, correct? Here we OC/VoltMod/Unlock/Supercool anything just to do it...

Not all of us do those things :)

I have my 3, 45w amd servers running at 1ghz this morning using cool'nquiet in linux.

Yes, and I do those things too. I prefer to overclock and unlock features in a way that will actually give me a reliable machine. Unlocking the fourth core on the early batches is like playing Russian roulette without a guarantee that you'll realize you're dead. It's fine if you don't actually care about your computations. A frozen FPS session isn't the end of the world. But when you're cranking matlab it really matters if that fourth core is pissing in the data, or crashes a three day run with four hours to go.

There is a reason so many of the unlocked 3x chips are popping up with errors.

That is a sweet board.. but I think I agree that it is way too expensive for HTPC.

HTPC doesn't need all the "bells and whistles" that DFI offers (correct me if I'm wrong)

The Egg has two ASUS options that I've been watching, either one for less than $80.
--one has nVidia GF8300 chipset with HDMI out
--one has AMD 780G chipset and HD3200 with HDMI out

Sure the DFI has better specs, but are they needed / worth the xtra coin for HTPC? I mean, it's not like I'm gonna o'c a HTPC that built on low-power hardware

But, none the less... if I could guarantee getting one of the X2 CPU's in be bundle, that board would be really tempting. I'm sure I'd find something to do with it.

Guess the site doesn't proof read much, the price on the DK 790FX-M2RS shows as $137.99.99 LOL.

Typo on the price or not I must say MBPro is probably the best place to buy a board from in terms of customer service. I got several bad DFI 790FX M2R boards in a row due to a bad batch when the board was brand new on the market and I sent 4 boards back to these guys in a month before I ended up switching to an ASUS board. By the end, they were actually having the boards sent directly to me from DFI in San Jose because they were closer to my shipping address. Also, when you call the phone number on the site you will never get a phone tree, either a real person or an answering machine that a real person actually checks regularly and WILL call you back. It doesn't get much better than that and I think it's sad that people bitch about "high" prices here when for only a few bucks more per board than the 'Egg you get a seriously awesome level of support behind your purchase.

hmmm... never even heard of them before this thread... but I'll heed Pharaoh's recommendation for consideration for my next mobo purchase.

<EDIT>
OK, sadly on every motherboard that I just checked, they were not a few dollars more, they were on average $20 more. Considering that I thought the Egg was already too much $$ for a micro-ATX... :p

Received mine today... the CPU is already in the socket. Got a 4450. woot... not a single core

I didn't ask for a certain one. I did not see any place while ordering to select one. It just said "grab bag" OEM AMD cpu.

Haven't gotten mine yet, but I wanted one of the higher end X2s (the 6000 or 5600). If I don't get one, then I'll use the CPU for a while in my wifes machine (maybe two months) until I buy her a newer CPU, and use the CPU that comes with the board for an HTPC machine I'm slowly sketching out....
