Here is a good piece of equipment that people who are watercooling might be interested in. This Proteus Industries Flow Meter provides an excellent visual indication of water flowing through your loop. You can see the paddle wheel spin through the clear cover when the water is flowing, eliminating the guesswork. The unit also contains a 24V DC relay that is triggered when no water is flowing, making it easy to connect an alarm to the flow meter that would go off when the water flow is interrupted.

As you can see, this is an industrial unit with a copper body and 1/2" NPT input and output threads. The unit is brand new, I tested it once in my loop (hence some dark markings inside). Despite what you might have read, it offers practically no pressure loss, so connecting this flow meter to your existing loop will not affect your temperatures. If you don't need the electronics, they are easily taken off, so you are left with only the metal part.

Asking $30 shipped.
