Brand new in Retail box.
Note that the 2550k lacks a integrated GPU so you'll need a dedicated graphics card. However the trade off is thought to be that they use less wattage and consequently run cooler than the 2500k.
The batch number is L114C089. I bought two at the same time and have this exact batch. In terms of overclocking it can hit 5ghz with 1.42-1.46vcore.
As always although its of the same batch, YMMV. But I've attached a 11 hr prime stable shot 5ghz @1.46vcore of my own chip. I just recently got it stable after changing the PLL voltage to 1.7v and the VCCIO to 1.15v so stability may be well below 1.46v.
