Here is my 1U mod (11D"x17W"x1.75H"). My goal was to fit a FULL POWER (yet near silent and FULLY upgradeable) gaming desktop, in a case that is 0.18 cubic feet. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!

The specs are:

-250W PSU
-ATI HD3870 GPU
-200GB 7200RPM 2.5" SATA HD
-4GB DDR2 800mhz Ram
- E6320 Dual Core CPU
-External USB DVD RW Optical Drive (connects via my LCD internal USB HUB)
-8x40mm NEAR SILENT cooling fans (under 30db)
-CPU Cooler is a 80mm blower type fan (under 30db even under full load).

All in 1U Supermicro Case!

Here are the pics:

*Very* nice job. (I had to ninja edit the '*Very*' bit in. ;) ) Strap that to your monitor and you have an all-in-one PC. :D

What are the temps? It looks like you'd have decent airflow paths through the case, possibly excepting the HDD (?) under the GPU.

Very cool! Ive done something similar but it was not in a 1U but rather a 2U. And because it was a 2U it had hotswappable HDD's

runs at very quiet on idle and normal tasks, the GPU fan ramps up during gaming and is noticeably louder. But overall, its SUPER quiet during daily tasks!

TEMPS:

IDLE

HD: 22C
CPU: 28C
GPU: 39C

LOAD

HD: 23C
CPU: 53C
GPU: 62C

It's awesome, but I don't see that 250 watt power supply holding up

The system has been running now for about 6 months, since I selected a 65W CPU and am using a laptop hard drive, and my optical drive runs off the power from my embedded USB hub in my LCD, the power draw is minimal, and the 250W has been doing just fine!

How much to make me one lol.. I really want something that small

actually I am thinking about selling this one since I am now working on a new X68000 Mod. Email me if you in fact interested in buying it for a reasonable price (spent about $700 on parts, wouldn't ask too much more then that).

nice job dude!!! That's pretty sick. Nice LAN party machine. People will be like "where the heck is your pc?"

I have a hard time believing 8 x 40mm fans can be anywhere near quiet :) nice little gaming box though!

Nice work! Beats my shuttle, you could mount it under your desk. Always thought/dreamt of bulding something like this.

the 40mm fans run at 3500rpm and 14dba, so yeah it's pretty quiet (the 80mm CPU fan is the loudest part at about 30dba):

Model Name: Mini Kaze 4cm Silent Fan
Model Number: SY124010L

Dimensions: 40x40x10mm
Fan Speed: 3500rpm(±10%)
Fan Noise: 14.00dBA
Airflow: 4.11CFM
Rated Voltage: 12V
Rated Current: 0.06A
Bearing Type: Sleeve Bearing
MTBF: 30,000 hours

Manufacturer dba values should always be taken with a grain of salt, but if X68K finds the system quiet for him, that's what matters.

The 80mm CPU cooler was pretty loud at 12V, I ended up using a rheostat to lower the RPMs and still maintain decent temps even at full load. The end result is an overall quiet system, on par with the shuttle SFFs I have used in the past.

Installed a internal USB wifi adapter and the antenna is mounted on the front:

Hmm, you could stap/hinge a monitor to that thing....Sorta like a laptop almost.....

Oh what mobo is that?

Very Nice! I'm going to steal this Idea with some 1U cases that I'm going to pick up tomorrow! Woot for Craigslist Free section!!

Pics gone already? :(

Edit: Could be because I'm at work, I didn't think about that.
