GALAXY GTX 780 HOF (White PCB) Released

I think the noise IS the problem with those blower coolers though. Blower fans are loud.

yep... it's like a turbine rather than traditional fan blades... I am sure it's been tested, but if you took something like the windforce cooler and sealed all the sides so air goes in the 3 fans and only comes out of the rear, and really open up the back end so air gets out freely. That was my thought... rear exhaust with lower noise? the fans might fight each other with a sort of pressurized flow through the card though.

The blower fan on the GTX 780 and Titan is actually one of the quietest coolers I've ever used. It's right up there with the Accelero Twin Turbo II as far as noise levels go.

There's a bit of a double-whammy going on as well. With the Twin Turbo II, all the GPU's heat it dumped into the case. That basically means you're forced to create a fan profile to to ramp up your case fans when the GPU is under load. In my case, that's 2 fans + the 2 fans on the Twin Turbo II just to keep the Twin Turbo II from sucking up its own exhaust and running EVEN LOUDER. The CPU fan might join the party if the graphics card generates enough heat to start raising CPU temps. What ends up happening is I'm effectively trying to keep noise down with a dual-fan cooler... by making noise with a bunch of other components that now have to compensate for the massive heat dump. Not great right?

GTX 780 with a blower? Only one fan spins up (the one on the card itself). No assistance from case fans required. No sucking up its own exhaust heat. If you're into noise canceling, this is a much better scenario as well (far easier to silence a single limited-range source than a bunch of sources with different ranges all over the place).

I am glad people are still putting visual flair on their hardware.. These aftermarket coolers are nice but can they not design one that dumps the air out the back of the case? seems like a much better thermal design getting the hot out - then if they can get the noise down with more and quieter fans it would be near perfect.

Ideally I suppose they could stick with the same sort of heatsink design they use with bower-style coolers today, but instead of using a squirrel-cage fan, leave the card open-ended.

That would either let them put a row of three small fans right at the end of the graphics card, or a larger 120mm fan could be ducted into the small rectangular opening. The card / heatsink would effectively be a wind tunnel.

I think the button looks cheap with the exposed spring, could they at least make something modern looking?

As for the overall design, not a fan of any video card cooler that does not exhaust heat from the PC case. It would have been easier to market a design with mini DVI/HDMI/DP connectors that leave room for rear exhaust.

If I ever upgrade to a 780 or better card, I will probably be forced into water cooling just because of this stupid internal case heating factor.

Would be kinda cool to see someone mount a GTX780 to the top of their case using standoffs, then connect it using a PCIe ribbon through a slot in the case (ideally using a case that mounts the motherboard upside-down so the slots are closer to the top).

Would really show off the card, and these dual-fan coolers wouldn't do horrible things to in-case temps.

Yeah I've seen a couple painted white, they do look good. But really someone needs to step up and make a motherboard with a white pcb.

Currently, I have a sabertooth board and an evga card with the backplate. It looks great and sort of matches up with the armor on the mobo. What would make me giddy would be a motherboard/graphics card pair that put white armor/cooling on a white pcb. I wouldn't cry over a red pcb with white armor, either tho.

Does anyone know what voltage this card is capped at ? I really cant wait for the lightning anymore.

I'm guessing like the majority of 780's (at 1.2v). It looks like a great card, but if it doesn't have voltage control, it can't compete with the 780 classy or upcoming lightning.

Edit: It's now available at newegg btw.

Can't be at 1.2v. I think it has the highest OC record right now? I'm not sure though. Lightning comes out on the 28th and we don't even know what it looks like lol.

Hopefully it is not voltage locked. I'm pretty sure those records have since been broken by the lightning and now the classy (kingpin).

Msi might release a bit more info on the lightning tomorrow.

Oh I do love some computer porn. That is so beautiful. The thoughts of it in a modded case oh yea.. thanks for sharing that you made my night.

Fuggit. I wanted to hold out until the price on 780's dropped but it would probably have been a long wait (or it'll happen after I'm charged). I threw down for one of these. Going from a 480 to 780; this better rock my balls harder than a $700 hooker.

for some reason Im thinking the hooker is the better choice

shitty Elpida memory, just like on new evga Classified

Apparently the memory switch is happening on all NEW 780's not just those two models. Its a supply issue with Samsung. I wouldn't call it shitty, it just doesn't overclock as well as the Samsung memory. It still overclocks some.

Sure would be nice if someone actually posted a review or even a user review of one of these cards. It seems Amazon's stock has gone down from about 15 units to just a few but I've seen not a single report of someone owning of these yet on the internet. So far, it seems the Classified is bar none the best overclocker for the GPU core speed.

Well, the hooker would have likely only put out for one night; I'm expecting at least 900 nights from the 780.

Amazon itself has nothing right now. I decided I didn't want to pay ~$5 shipping and thought I could wait but I'm getting antsy. My order is in but it's awaiting information on when stock will be available. I'll do some apples-to-apples benches on a first-gen i7, 480->780. heh

Hi All,

I bought this card and installed it last night. It replaced an ASUS GTX 580 DirectCU II.

I think it looks good with my white powder-coated Antec 1200.

As you can see, the shroud does overlap a third PCI slot, so even though it mounts on two slots, this is basically a three-slot card. But, not as big as my ASUS...that thing was ridiculously ginormous.

Very nice man. Love the heat pipes and white pcb. Im seriously thinking about this card for my new build.

Amazon was selling 15 of them starting last week from Tigerdirect. You must have missed it. I almost pulled the trigger myself just to see how well these cards would overclock but shipping and tax killed it for me since it was coming from Tigerdirect. I wasn't paying an additional $50 for shipping and tax.

And still no report of overclocking...

Just a heads up, we've got a shipment on the way to NCIX.com tomorrow, so if you're quick you might scoop one up when they arrive next week.

For those asking about overclocking results, I only had a day with the card myself but I tested quite a bit and my top stable clocks were 1280Mhz without Hyper Boost and 1306Mhz with Hyper Boost.

I would certainly like to see some confrmed reports of this kind of speed. That would put it close to what the EVGA Classified 780's are getting. Maybe some users or professional reviewers will get their hands on some soon. By chance, do you know what voltage was used to attain those speeds? 1.2v or higher?

I didn't take a direct measurement on the voltage, but it was set wide open on Xtreme Tuner Plus including the +0.038v overvoltage. Should be whatever the maximum is according to NVIDIA guidelines-- 1.2v IIRC.

One highly respected reviewer has a card in his hands now, so I expect we'll get closure on all the gritty details real soon.

Just was able to install my first one

Man is this thing sexy :p but the metal pipes on the side interfere with my side fans. Keep this in mind if you are using a smallish case

Great! Thank you for the info.

Mine seems to suffer from some buzzing noise, I can alleviate the problem by putting slight pressure on the metal right near the top Hall of fame light. Any thoughts?

You might try removing and reseating the card right quick. Can you tell whether the noise is coming from the shroud, bracket, or case? Is it happening at a particular fan speed?

Owners mind posting their idle & load temps? Want to know if the cooler fails like the GC model which runs 10 degrees hotter than the Evga ACX.

My Galaxy 670 4gb runs @1267mhz with 80% fan speed to keep to the temps around 65 c.
