Hi, I'm going to be buying a new computer soon, don't really know if I should splurge on the extra gb of ram on the video card if I'm going to be gaming on my 30" and what video card is best value for $150-250 range?

2gb is always better especially at high resolution. Buying a 300 vid card doesn't make sense to me though you have a 1000 monitor at top resolution right now why not take advantage of the situation and buy a top end video card? if you wanted a cheaper vid card shoulda saved yourself the cash and got a 27 incher for half the price of a 30.

You will need the 2gb unless you don't plan to game at the native resolution.

it really depends on the game, but i'd say bare minimum HD6950 2GB or GTX 570. pay attention to holiday sales you may be able to find some good deals. also pay attention to the second hand market you might find an even better deal, especially if its one of the 6950's that can be unlocked.

I game at that resolution and using a G15 keyboard and monitoring my vid memory on the lcd through Aida64, almost all newer games come close or break the 1gb barrier. Some games like Stalker COP, Skyrim, Metro2033 can almost max out my 1.5 gb gtx 480....

^^yup, and I only have a 2560x1440 monitor wig my gtx580, came close to maxxing out that 1.5GB in a few games (C2, metro2033).
