Good AVI Trimmer?

Hi, I'm making an orientation for a club at my school and need some more tools in order to get started. So I have all of the clips imported into my computer but I only need certain segments from these individual clips. I am planning to use Windows Movie Maker because this is actually my first time dealing with video editing and was quite overwhelmed with Vegas Video.

So what program allows for easy and precise trimming of video clips?
